The genus Trichodiadema is part of the family Aizoaceae (synonymous with Mesembryanthemaceae), which also includes the various forms of plants known as "Ice Plants" and those known as "Mimicry Plants". Trichodiadema densum, native to South Africa, forms very succulent mounds of cylindrical green leaves that have a "crystalline" texture and tufty bristles at the the tips. Trichodiadema densum forms ever increasingly large "mounds". This plant also produces roots that thicken to produce caudex-like tubers. These tubers can be raised above the soil line to create a gnarly "caudiciform" effect, thereby making this plant an excellent subject for bonsai. Trim tips occasionally for best bonsai appearance. Profuse intense majenta flowers in spring and summer. Trichodiadema bulbosum is heat and drought dolerant. Prefers bright light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Can tolerate some frost, but best if is given frost protection to avoid scarring. For more information and answers to question just go to our Community by clicking here. |
